A technology to improve Sahelian pearl millet cropping!
SMIL-UH
is a project under the umbrella of the USAID funded „Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Collaborative Research on Sorghum and Millet“.
It aims i.a. at developing and disseminating the seedball technology for use in Sahelian semi-arid environments on sandy soils (Arenosols) with small grain cereals, at first place pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum) but taking sorghum (Sorghum bicolor) as option into account.
The project is now in its second phase for the period 2019-2023, led by the University of Hohenheim, and has laboratory faciltities in Germany and on-station and on-farm research activities in Senegal and Niger.
